Tips for Travel Nursing During the Holidays

Date published: November 20, 2019

While travel nursing may be the experience of a lifetime, taking an assignment during the holidays can be tough. Being away from loved ones during this time year might not be what you are used to; however, there are ways to make the most of your time away from home. Read on for some tips on how to have an amazing holiday season:

Check on Family Back Home.

While you may not be physically with them, scheduling some time to check on the family back home will put your mind at ease. Take some time out of your day to call or video chat with loved ones, as hearing their voices will be comforting. If you love the gift of giving, send your friends and family some items you picked up on your assignment. They will appreciate the kind gesture!

Secure an Assignment Close to Home.

You don’t have to be away for the holidays if you don’t want to - ask your recruiter about opportunities close to home. You may be overlooking an opportunity to stay near home, or even in your own home. Being a travel nurse doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to miss out on seeing friends and family during the holidays.

Celebrate with Coworkers.

Find other coworkers who are in the same boat as you - either on a travel assignment or working holiday shifts. Celebrate with those around you in the workplace and make the most of things. Order a pizza to the unit, or bring in some cookies to share. Who knows, you might just make some life-long friends along the way

Volunteer Your Time.

If you have some free time during your assignment, volunteering to help others is a great way to give back to the community. Not only will you be helping those in need, but also you will feel like your time is being spent in the most worthwhile way. The holidays are the perfect time of year to help others!

No matter where your assignment takes you, there are many ways to celebrate and embrace the holiday spirit.
